The owners of this suburban home spent a year looking for their "dream home" before deciding they didn't need to go any further then their own backyard. Their present home's ideal location and gorgeous lot were enough to induce them to stay put. The kitchen, however, was another matter. Small and dark, it didn't suit the needs of this busy blended family and their love of entertaining.
For Teresa Ryan of Casa Bella Design Center, the biggest challenge was enlarging the space. An adjacent sunroom was the logical solution, but the wall that needed to come down was an overwhelming challenge. But with some clever engineering and the installation of a 900 lb. steel beam, the solution was there. Ryan also incorporated decorative columns that concealed the structural steel beam.
For space, Ryan created a plan that utilized two islands. The design features clearly defined prep and cooking areas, making it ideal for several cooks, as well as large scale entertaining. Bar height counters on both islands are used for casual dining and buffet service.
A variety of materials were used to create the rich and dramatic interior. Maple cabinets with a champagne finish and chocolate glaze are accented with Verde Butterfly granite counters and backsplashes. The travertine marble flooring is a cool, neutral backdrop. State-of-the-art stainless appliances ensure that this kitchen is as functional as it is beautiful. As a result of their collaboration with designer Ryan, the owners now have a kitchen the reflects their personality and lifestyle. The decision to remodel was this family's perfect solution. It just goes to show, there's no place like home. |
