"California Retreat " - The Perfect Kitchen Designs

This Central Coast California Family Wanted The Charm of an old-world attitude and the function of modern technology for their remodeled kitchen. Upon the recommendation of former clients, Designer Patricia Knight, of PJ Knight Kitchens, Inc., was contracted. Knight's artistic flare, passion for efficient storage and use of distinctive materials intrigued them.
The wife, an enthusiastic cook, is fanatical about storage, having plenty of working counter space and providing a center for guests and family to socialize. Knight closed off a door to the dining room and created an L-shaped primary work area. This minor change produced more than I8 feet of continuous work space. Challenges posed included: solving original construction structural details, fitting all typical appliances, cabinets and plumbing and housing equipment for audio/visual. Extraordinary brainstorming and cooperation between all trades resulted in clever solutions that "just disappeared" into the final project.
Knight specified cabinets in a vanilla tone with a dark glaze to create a natural background for all warm tones and complex textures. Porcelain 12" tile was installed in a brick pattern on the primary counter and repeated in a smaller variation as backsplash field. Tumbled Scabos marble was selected for a soft focal point below the range hood mantle. Both the communication center and island were topped with Juparana Bordo granite to capture a furniture effect.
Each of the major zones: L-shaped cooking & clean-up, communication center, work island and casual dining now repeat a variation of the original theme and the homeowners expectations have not only been fulfilled, but surpassed.
