The flooring choice sets the tone for the whole kitchen

The flooring you choose will set the tone for the whole kitchen. The style, texture and color adopted for the floor are key in achieving your desired look. Your kitchen floor can be used to compliment and finish the look of the whole room.

Important things to consider:

1) Your floor color and tone depends on your cabinets selection.

It can be effective to create contrast between the color of the kitchen floor and the cabinets. In the picture below, you can notice how the homeowner chose a very dark, traditional color for the cabinets but has counterbalanced this striking choice with a light, beige tile floor.

This kitchen below has a more modern look. The homeowner has even stronger contrast between the cabinets and floors by using a powerful red color. The use of bright, bold color in this example makes the felling of contrast even more apparent.

On the other hand, the pictures below showcase a kitchen with a unified color theme. Both the kitchen floor and the cabinets are in the same color tone. Adopting this style makes the kitchen feel elegant and soothing.

Equipped with white/beige cabinets and a similar colored floor, the kitchen below had added contrast by using the island in the middle of the room. Unlike the rest of the room the island is dark in color, therefore appearing bold and eye-catching. The island quickly becomes a feature within the kitchen.

2) Your floor choice depends on the overall look you want to go with.

Hardwood floors can help you achieve a more traditional look. The kitchen below shows an example by combining both a classic wood floor with old-style, traditional cabinets & lightings. Doing this, the homeowner has achieved a nice, rustic ambiance which conjures up images of old-style living.

On the other end, an engineered laminate wood floor will nicely contribute to a room’s modern atmosphere, as showcased in this room below with stainless steel cabinets and progressive blue cabinets. This modern design commands such a surface to compliment the contrast in texture and color.
